About the Course
Thames Proficiency in English provides students with a strong foundation that helps students in assimilating professional studies conducted in that language.


This program also serves as a preparatory course for the TOEFL / IELTS examination and will ultimately be the entry requirement for overseas universities.


Students will be expected to acquire the following skills at each level:

     • Grammar
     • Vocabulary
     • Composition/Writing Skills
     • Comprehension
     • Oral Skills (Reading and Speaking)


The course consists of 12 levels, namely:

Proficiency in English Levels 1 & 2 (Pre-Elementary A & B)
This most basic level of instruction caters to students with little or no knowledge of the English language. Students are helped master basic communication requirements in English, besides being provided with a foundation in grammar and vocabulary.

Proficiency in English Levels 3 & 4 (Elementary A & B)
The Elementary Level caters to students who have a basic foundation in English but he need to further develop all four fundamental communication skills: speaking, reading and listening. The curriculum imparts language skills needed to interact in an English-speaking social and professional environment.

Proficiency in English Levels 5&6 (Pre-Intermediate A & B)
The Intermediate Level is suitable for students who have mastered the fundamentals of communicating in English. This level focuses on enhancement and practice of English language communication skills. It seeks to develop the student’s knowledge in speaking, writing, reading and listening.

Proficiency in English Levels 7 & 8 (Intermediate A & B)
The advanced Level is ideal for students who have already acquired the necessary skills to communicate, but require further instruction to improve their overall fluency. This level helps raise the level of competence in speaking, reading, writing and listening.

Proficiency in English level 9&10 (Upper –Intermediate A & Upper –Intermediate B) This level help students to achieve high speaking of every day conversation and achieve high literacy in formal study.

Proficiency in English level 11 &12 (Advanced A & Advanced B) At this stage, students will demonstrate their mastery of the language. This level acts as a benchmark for students preparing to do the FCE/KET/PET/CAE exams and to take the preparatory courses for the TOEFL/IELTS examinations.

These courses prepare students that have already mastered the English Language Skills and are ready to take a formalized examination.
